Prince Harry, born on September 15, 1984, grew up in the spotlight. As a member of the British royal family and the second son of King Charles III and the late Princess Diana, significant moments from Harry’s life have been documented for the public, including the royal’s sense of style and the evolution of his wardrobe.
From military uniform for special royal occasions, to evening wear during his time as a senior member of the House of Windsor, to his new Californian casual look, Prince Harry’s style has indeed changed over the years, even if the changes have been very minor.

See below how the 40-year-old’s royal wardrobe has evolved.
2002
Prince Harry attended the Christmas service at Sandringham Church in 2002 with members of his family. It is a tradition for members of the royal family and is often a place where members such as Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have made unique fashion statements.
At 18, just entering young adulthood, Harry opted for a suit with a light blue button-down shirt and yellow tie, worn under a double-breasted black coat because of the winter weather.
2008
Starting in 2008, Harry became a more public member of the British royal family. Harry stayed true to his suit style, opting for a blue and white checked button-down shirt, but experimented with color blocking with her merlot suit and navy tie while attending an event at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Harry is considered one of the more cheeky members of the British royal family and his wardrobe showed subtle signs of playfulness, even if it came in the form of pattern combinations and colors.
2011
On the day of his older brother Prince William’s wedding in April 2011, Prince Harry showed off his military regalia: he wore medals, a black tailcoat with a gold belt, buttons on the front placket and an ornate rope on the shoulders. Harry’s military service is a source of pride for the royal. On his wedding day to Meghan Markle in May 2018, he wore the Blues and the Royals frock coat.
2019
2019-2020 was a turbulent time of scrutiny for both the Duke of Sussex and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. However, their public appearances showed a more buttoned-up approach to fashion from Prince Harry. Layered looks, occasion wear and even a “Don Draper suit” were at the forefront of Harry’s style. Since those years, Harry’s suit tailoring has taken on a sleeker look.
2024
The Duke of Sussex, who now resides in Montecito, California, has a style that is combined with a philanthropic spirit in his spare time.
Nevertheless, the royal can still be seen wearing typical suit outfits, some of which are reminiscent of his time as a royal. Last May, Harry traveled to London to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games Foundation. He attended an event at St. Paul’s Cathedral, dressed in tailored clothing and with rather sentimental military honors.
Among the medals Harry wore with his tailored suit was the Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) medal, which was awarded to Prince Harry in 2015 by his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, for services to the monarchy.
Since moving to California, Harry has also been seen favoring more neutral tones, as opposed to the darker colors associated with his suits. Rolled-up sleeves and camel-colored garments, sometimes coordinated with his wife’s attire, are more common in his wardrobe, as Harry favors the Montecito style and a quiet sense of luxury.
