Chelsea returned to winning ways on Saturday night, defeating Bournemouth as Christopher Nkunku scored the only goal with minutes remaining.

It was a great win for the Blues, who had Robert Sanchez to thank in the first half, saving Evanilson’s penalty and being forced to make several saves.

However, Axel Disasi had problems in the right-back position because Malo Gusto and Reece James were injured.

This is how Enzo Maresca’s team performed at the Vitality Stadium…

Robert Sanchez 9

He cleverly saved Kluivert’s shot when he had no vision and then made a brilliant save from Evanilson’s penalty.

Axel Disasi 3

A bizarre lack of defense allowed Tavernier to come in. He generally struggled to replace the injured Gusto and was finally put out of his misery.

Wesley Fofana 3

Horrible moment during the penalty, which was saved by his goalkeeper. Shaky all evening. Yellow card.

Levi Colwill 6

The only Chelsea defender to come away with anything resembling a great performance, which is an odd thing to say when writing about a team that keeps a clean sheet away from home. Yellow card.

Marc Cucurella 5

Kept the in-form Semenyo largely in check, but lost to him in the run-up to the penalty incident. Warning.

Renato Veiga4

Arguably Chelsea’s fifth central midfielder, but injury and illness meant his first Premier League start. He looked underwhelmed and was consistently second to loose balls.

Moises Caicedo 5

Weak in the air in the run-up to the penalty incident. Some cautious attempts at marking.

Noni Madueke 6

Chelsea’s best striker in the first half. Took an aerial kick after a back pass from Cucurella when he should have scored.

Cole Palmer 5

He was frustrated throughout the first half and received several heavy fouls as Cook tried to take him out of the game.

Pedro Neto 5

Madueke’s form on the right means that the summer’s star signing is playing in an unfamiliar position on the left, but this has not brought him any effectiveness so far.

Nicholas Jackson 4

Signed a contract extension during the international break, but is certainly not ruthless enough to be the number 9 in the long term. He played the best chance of the first half too close to Travers, then wasted another good chance after the break.

Substitute

Jadon Sancho (Neto 46′) 8

Made an immediate impression, combining well with Cucurella and then giving Jackson a chance. Extremely encouraging debut.

Tosin Adarabioyo (Disasi 61′) 6

Less unpredictable than its predecessor.

Joao Felix (Madueke 61′) 6

Looked sharp. Gave Chelsea a bit of a boost.

Christopher Nkunku (Jackson 79′) 7

Did what Jackson didn’t do by seizing the only opportunity he had.

Unused: Jorgensen, Badiashile, Casadei, Mudryk, Guiu
